The Cosmelan Depigmentation Peel

There are many anti-aging chemical peels flooding the market that purport to work for nearly all skin types and tones. Finding a chemical peel that will produce the results you expect are hard to find. At the Glow Aesthetic Center in Encino, our Cosmelan Depigmentation Peel is a powerful tool used to manage melisma, scarred or blotchy skin, and hyperpigmentation.
The Cosmelan Depigmentation Peel is engineered to diminish hyperpigmentation and skin discoloration. This chemical treatment targets melanin by inhibiting an enzyme called Tyrosinase. This will decrease your skin’s natural melanin production naturally, leading to a more even complexion of skin tone.
The Cosmelan Depigmentation Peel is an efficient treatment for evening the skin tone in the face and for reducing dullness, acne scarring, blemishes, dryness, and dark spots on the legs, abdomen, and breast/nipples.
Melasma is a common pigmentation disorder that causes skin discoloration caused by hormonal shifts. The most common areas for melasma to appear on the face include the bridge of the nose, cheeks, chin, nose, and other areas of the face and body. Chloasma, a related form of Melasma caused by birth control or pregnancy, can also be erased with this peel.
Cosmelan Depigmentation Peel also works by lessening the skin’s oil production and correcting acne.

An Ideal Candidate

This treatment is safe and effective for all skin tones and types. Our clinicians are happy to discuss the risks and benefits in more detail at your consultation appointment.
An ideal candidate would:
  • Be healthy
  • Understand the treatment process and its follow-up care requirements
  • Have reasonable expectations of their results

Your Consultation

Before treatment, patients have a private consultation with a certified Glow Aesthetic Center clinician. Next we will evaluate your skin’s tone, texture, and structure of your face. Clinicians generally need a record of your medical history so then can asses the best treatment option moving forward. If a Cosmelan peel is right for you, a custom treatment plan will be generated to meet your goals.

What is the procedure?

The Cosmelan Depigmentation Peel is a two-stage treatment. In the first stage a stimulating mask is applied for about an hour in our Aesthetic Center. In the second stage, patients continue to use the prescribed chemical peel at home as directed.
Stage 1: At Glow Aesthetic Center
  • A clinician cleans and preps your skin
  • A deep layer of the Cosmelan mask is applied by our clinician
  • You may feel a slight sting that quickly goes away
  • The mask must stay on the skin for 6-12 hours, depending on how much correction is required to reach desired results
  • The clinician will instruct you on what time is best to remove your mask at home
  • The Glow Aesthetic Center will provide you with a special aftercare kit
Stage 2: At Home
  • At the specified time, you will remove the mask using a gentle, pH-balanced cleanser
  • Next, you will spread the comforting and moisturizing Mesoestetic Hydra-Vital Factor K onto the skin
  • After two to three days after the mask was applied, you will begin to see peeling
  • Apply the Cosmelan II cream 2-3 times per day for two weeks
  • After 14 days have passed, you may apply Cosmelan II only once per day

Within the first week you will see your blemishes fading and your complexion will begin to adjust and brighten. Within two weeks your skin will appear much healthier and glow more. Results will continue to improve each week and by the fourth or fifth week, you will see the complete benefits of your first treatment. With the daily application of Cosmelan II, results will last for several months.
Note: For the first two weeks, your skin will be sensitive. It is recommended that you avoid being in the sun for long and always wear full-spectrum sunscreen when going outdoors.

Possible Side Effects

Mild to moderate redness and discomfort similar to a sunburn may occur. Skin may also feel itchy or you may experience tightness. More serious side effects like scarring may occur by inexperienced clinicians. At the Glow Aesthetic Center, our expert clinicians are trusted to deliver results that exceed patient expectations.
